Refrigeration Basics
Presented by Jim Bogart Director of Innovation at API Heat Transfer
Refrigeration Basics is the first in the API Innovation Council Education Series, a set of presentations designed to familiarize participants with the principles, equipment and vocabulary of the HVAC&R industry. This session is aimed at entry-level experience and covers very basic refrigeration concepts and equipment with minimum mathematics and introductory terminology, making it a good fit for students, young engineers and anyone newer to the industry.
Topics Covered:
•Basic heat transfer concepts and trends, including sensible and latent heat and the two systems of measure.
•Refrigeration systems you see during your day, and the important ones you don't (air-cooled chillers, water-cooled chillers and cooling towers).
•Introduction to refrigerants: types, history, and how refrigerants behave.
•Basic vapor compression systems.
•Open questions and discussion.
